1 Open up Photoshop and chose File>>New. Set the Mode to grayscale and make it 500x500 pixels. Make the background black. Now chose the Text Tool and add some white text. Now right click on the text layer and chose Rasterize Layer and then duplicate the layer. Working with the original text layer, go Image>>Rotate Canvas>>90° CW. Your image will look like the one on the left.
2. Now go Filter>>Stylize>>Wind and apply with the settings: Wind and From the Left. Re-apply the filter until you think the flames are high enough. Go Image>>Rotate Canvas>>90° CCW. Your images will look something like the one on the left.
3. Go Filter>>Blur>>Gaussian Blur and chose a radius of about three pixels. Now go Filter>>Distort>>Wave and chose these settings or whatever you think look good. Next go Filter>>Blur>>Motion Blur and chose these settings: Angle 90° and a distance of about 15. Your images should look something like the one on the left.
4. Now go to the Layer 1 copy and Ctrl + click on it. Go Edit>>Fill and apply Black. Next we will apply the colors. Go Image>>Mode>>Indexed Color and chose ok when you are asked if you would like to flatten the layers. Now go Image>>Mode>>Color Table and choose Black Body. Wow, there is the fire.
5. The fire does not look really realistic, however we can make it a little bit more realistic by adjusting the saturation. Go Image>>Adjust>>Hue/Saturation and lower the saturation until you think the image looks more realistic.

6. Here is the final image.
